Clinics We Offer

Our practice nurses, together with our doctors, run our Health Promotion Clinics. Appointments can be made for any of these at reception.

Asthma/COPD

Sister Sanghera runs weekly asthma and COPD clinics.  We advise all our asthmatic patients to visit this clinic at least annually for monitoring of medication, assessment of the disease and to ensure correct use of inhalers.  The surgery will offer all asthma and COPD patients an annual check.

Diabetes

The practice runs weekly Diabetic Clinics.  All diabetic patients are advised to attend this clinic at least annually in order that the disease may be monitored.  The practice will also arrange for diabetic patients to undergo retinal screening and foot checks.  The surgery will offer all diabetic patients an annual check.

Coronary Heart Disease

We run weekly Vascular Clinics that focus on patients with high cholesterol, hypertension and history of angina/heart disease.  Losing weight and giving up smoking are also addressed under CHD.  The surgery will offer all coronary heart disease patients an annual check.

Antenatal

Run by the midwife on Wednesday afternoons from 13:00. 

Please use the attached pregnancy registration form to allow us to register your pregnancy with our Midwifery Team. This form is essential for all new pregnancies prior to patients being able to book an appointment with the Midwife.

Well Baby Clinics

These are run by our Health Visitor and are held at the Hinckley East Childrens Centre, Granville Road, Hinckley on a Wednesday Afternoon by appointment only. An appointment may be made by telephoning 01455 441980. Babies are normally weighed and monitored by the health visitors who will also give advice as and when required.

Child Health Surveillance

These are offered on a weekly basis and clinics are run by Dr Turner, Dr Ruth Turner and Dr Thomason. Child health surveillance is sometimes combined with childhood immunisation and mum's post natal checks.

Family Planning

This is not run as a fixed clinic. The practice nurse arranges repeat oral contraception checks and prescriptions. Coil fittings are available with Dr McManus. Patients requiring contraceptive services for the first time must see a doctor.

Minor Operations

This surgery has facilities to perform minor surgery at the discretion of the relevant doctor.  Dr Turner and Dr Thomason perform minor surgery and patients must see them in routine surgery before a minor operation can be arranged.

Cervical Smears

These clinics are also run by the practice nurses under guidance by Dr Ruth Turner. Patients who would rather have a doctor are free to do so, as long as they make their request clear when making the appointment. Current medical opinion is that all women over 45 years should have a smear every 5 years and all (sexually active) women under 45, every 3 years. Your doctor will inform you if there are any variations from these guidelines.

Immunisation

Our immunisation nurse carries out routine childhood immunisations on Tuesday afternoons This includes rubella for the 13 year olds and tetanus/polio boosters for the 15 year olds.  Anyone over the age of 16 requiring tetanus, polio, hepatitis B etc. must make an appointment with the practice nurse in a routine nursing session.
