Nurses
The nurses are responsible for a wide range of services within the practice including chronic disease management, new patient registrations, health promotion clinics, blood tests, cervical smears, childhood immunisations and injections required for travelling. They will always offer advice should you wish to discuss any problem with them and provide a valuable support service to our doctors. Our practice nurses also provide a chaperone service during examinations. Childhood immunisations are carried out at the surgery each Tuesday afternoon).
Healthcare Assistants
Our healthcare assistants run Warfarin clinics at Burbage and Wolvey surgeries. Patients taking warfarin will be invited to attend the surgery as required to have a blood test. Since May 2009 warfarin monitoring has been transferred from George Eliot Hospital to Burbage Surgery. Our healthcare assistants also provides phlebotomy and support to Dr Thomason in his ENT clinic.
Practice Management
Administration
Our administrative support team consists of an Audit Clerk, Data Entry assistant and Notes Summariser. Between them they work closely with the practice manager and are responsible for entering patient information on to the computer-. This includes entering patient registration details, immunisations, summarised medical information, scanning incoming correspondence, test results etc., producing reports and carrying out analysis as required. We are now linked with Leicestershire Strategic Health Authority (formerly Leicestershire Health), which has improved our information channels considerably. We are covered by the Data Protection Act 1 998. Since September 2000 the practice has worked as a paperless practice and all details of consultations are recorded directly on to the computer by our clinical staff avoiding the need for the doctors to use patient folders.
Reception
Our receptionists are trained to do a difficult job well. Please remember that if you are kept waiting or seem to be asked one or two questions, they are carrying out surgery policy, which is aimed at making the practice run smoothly. They do have to judge the urgency of requests so please try to give the information they require. They should deal with all patients in a polite, respectful and courteous manner and we expect our patients to treat our staff in the same way. All staff are bound by the same rules of confidentiality as the doctors and nurses. The Practice Manager would be happy to speak to any patient about the service offered by our reception team.
Secretaries
Our secretaries are available from 09:00 until 18:00, Monday to Friday. They arrange referrals to hospitals and private clinics for our patients and provide a very important link between the surgery and Consultants. They are also responsible for organising medical examinations and insurance requests for our patients as well as assisting with the booking of in house services and hospital appointments should you have a test result, which is abnormal, the secretary will contact you to make arrangements for you to see your doctor.
